How we saved £1,514.02 - All legal and above board!

Here at WeLikeArtists we take savings VERY seriously and reckon that if you can shave a few pounds off something you need for your creative practice, then that is a few pounds you can reinvest in your art, or yourself.

It has always been tough for artists to survive and it is getting tougher - so we put our money where our mouth is and tested out some of the savings and strategies we feature here on the site.

To date, using advice we have published, we have saved a massive £1,514.02

How we did it:

Software

I purchased the Adobe software package using educational discount which anyone can take advantage of if you are in further, continuing or higher education.  You need to prove your eligibility and Adobe are, for obvious reasons, very strict about this, but it is open to a wide range of individuals including 6th form college students, university students as well as educational staff (I did it using my staff discount as I teach on several university courses and use the software for research and teaching activities!).

Promotional Printing

A variety of colour printing products from Vistaprint which included: 250 full-colour business cards, 50 promotional business magnets, 1 car door magnet, 1 T-shirt and a pen, all customised with the WLA logo.

Entertainment

I purchased an iPod touch at the same time as I bought a new MacBook.  The MacBook was needed anyway - so it wasn’t a frivolous and unconsidered purchase!  

Apple are running the offer again this year and, depending on which iPod you buy, the cash rebate they send you could cover the entire cost of the iPod.  I chose to go for one of the more expensive iPods which, after the discount, cost me around £25.00.
