Fotolia- promotes itself as “...the first worldwide social marketplace for royalty-free stock images”. They have almost 8 million images to select from, as well as video clips, so are well worth a look if you are in the media or communications industry.
Like other agency sites, you buy your images using pre-paid credits. Fotolis sell credits from £0.63 and what you pay for your selected photo depends on how you want to use it (the license specifications) and its size. They offer extra small for 1 credit, small for 3 credits, medium for 5 credits, etc.
Apart from a vast selection of photos and vector graphics, they also offer stock video footage. More expensive than the photos, they can be used in a wide variety of projects. Like the photos, these come in a variety of sizes: Small web for 10 credits, big web for 20 credits, up to High Definition at 50 credits. You can have the files in a number of formats: .mov, .avi, .wmv and .flv, so should be able to find something there.
There are cheaper alternatives to Fotolia but, in the end, it boils down to which agency has the image, graphic or video you need.
