Weebly started in the States a few years ago and quickly became an effective, and successful, space to host, layout and publish a website for free!
They offer simple and effective drag and drop editing system with over 100 template themes which can be further customised. This means you can 'tweek' them so that they are just right for your needs. If you want to 'get your hands dirty' with web code, you can edit both HTML and CSS files.
Weebly was named one of TIME’s 50 'Best Websites of the Year' in 2007 and now has around 6 million customers.
Their basic free account is advertising-free and offers the ability to make 2 websites with a selection of 'add-ons' such as creating a blog, contact form, multiple pages and the handy ability to copy an already completed page, rename and adjust it so that it keeps the style of your site without you having to make a new page from scratch.
They have a nice photo gallery to showcase your work which is really simple to set up, as well as a number of other elements you can include such as surveys and basic online shop.
Their pro paid-for version includes the ability to add audio and video, password-protected pages, set up 10 sites, get $100 worth of Google advertising and remove the credit to Weebly at the bottom of each page. Cost is $4.58 per month for 6 months, $3.99 per month for 1 year or $2.99 per month for 2 years (which is a 25% saving).
