OpenOffice - provides almost everything you might need in a set of productivity programmes which are completely free of charge!
Although we have included this in our ‘Writing’ section, because it includes a robust word processor, OpenOffice also includes integrated spreadsheet, presentation, graphics and database modules. It is published as an open-source product which means it is free to use and is updated and refined by a team of people who use it world-wide.
It can be used on a variety of computer platforms (Mac and PC) and will deal with files from Microsoft Word. It supports over seventy languages and they estimate that it has about 15% of the market.
OpenOffice has been downloaded over 100 million times and, if you use this, rather than buying the new home and business version of Microsoft Office 2010, you immediately save yourself £240.00! Not to be sniffed at!
