Moo CardsDigital abstract artist Conal Flaherty tells us about his experience with online printer moo.com

I had been searching for some high quality business cards for a few weeks, I was looking for a good quality card at a competitive price, which in real terms meant that I didn’t want to pay over the odds.

Initially the people who set up my website had sent me some very nice cards, I got by with them but they were quickly running out and I had changed my e-mail address, swift action was needed.

I had made tentative enquiries with a number of printers out there, it seemed that for high quality cards I would need to pay a very high price and then I came across the website Welikeartists.com  and their item about moo.com

moo.com is a fantastic website, they appear to have thought of everything. I clicked on Business Cards, the first thing that got my attention was the price, it seemed so low!

Then something else caught my eye. There’s an option with 50 business cards per pack to have a different image on each card. I could have an image of my work on each card at no extra cost? I thought that there had to be a hidden catch, something I hadn’t seen, something in the terms and conditions perhaps? There was no hidden catch and just to put my mind at ease there are some great little videos on the site showing the quality of the product and testimonials too.

I found the ordering process fairly straightforward; the site is quite intuitive, so you pick it up really quickly. It was quite exciting seeing all my images appear one by one as I uploaded them. I could have ordered a free sample pack with free shipping. Instead I took their word for it and made my order.

As an artist working full time I’m keen to make that first impression. My work is digital abstract art with bright and bold colours, I just wondered whether they would be able to capture the essence of my work on such a small card?

The order was made on Monday 13th June 2011, with a lovely white box arriving at my door on Saturday 18th June 2011. My order was for 200 business cards, each with a picture of mine in packs of 50. Total cost including shipping and VAT came in just short of £45.00.

I have to tell you that I couldn’t wait to open the box, like a child in a sweetshop.  I wasn’t disappointed, absolutely fantastic.

The way they arrive in their purpose-made packaging gives you a clue that what’s on the inside of the box is pure quality. What were my colours going to look like? Would their colours be a true representation of what I see on screen? Well, how is 100% accurate for you? I might even consider framing them up as a montage, they are that good.

Handing out my business card is now very much experiential. I offer a choice of images, “pick a card “ I say,  you know they make people smile, now that can’t be bad can it?

As moo.com do so much more than business cards, I can see me using them again and again.
