You can’t move for mention of social media and the remarkable effect it is having on our lives. But, is it simply a distraction for the unfocused, or an effective tool which might actually have some use to artists as they carry out research, marketing and collaboration.
We know, here at WeLikeArtists, just how effective micro-blogging systems like Twitter can be. We use it in short bursts to promote new content on the site or for research. Each time we tweet our visitor numbers go up. We are, after all, directly contacting people (our followers), who choose to ‘like’ us. A captive audience with inbuilt curiosity!
For a report on how artists are using Twitter in innovative ways, take a look at this 'an' video on the subject. Katy Beale, who has worked with many major arts organisations to develop their social media strategy, talks to Charlotte Frost.
More information, and some creative examples, can be found in an’s Knowledge Bank, a location you should visit regularly for timely and practical advice.
